The Origin of the Thanksgiving

Do you know about Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving is a big holiday in the US and Canada. Modern Thanksgiving is a day when families gather together, share food, and express gratitude to one another. People usually eat turkey and pumpkin pie, and in the joyful atmosphere, they reflect on the importance of family.
Then, what is the origin of this day?
About 400 years ago, in 1620, a group of people called the Pilgrims left England. They wanted freedom to practice their religion. They sailed to the New World, North America, on a ship called the Mayflower. There were 102 people on the ship. After a long and difficult journey, they arrived in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts.
The first winter was very hard for the Pilgrims. It was very cold and they didn’t have enough food. Also, they didn’t know how to farm in the new land. Many people became sick and died because of the cold and hunger. Also, some people didn’t adjust to the new land. The Pilgrims were afraid they might not survive.
Luckily, the Native Americans called Wampanoag, helped Pilgrims. They taught the Pilgrims how to plant crops, hunt, and fish. They showed them how to grow corn, beans, and pumpkins, which were new to the Pilgrims. With this help, the Pilgrims were able to grow enough food in the next season. This was very important. Because it helped them survive in the New World.
To celebrate their first successful harvest, the Pilgrims held a three-day feast. They invited the Wampanoag people to join them. They shared turkey, fish, corn, and other foods. Everyone gave thanks for the good harvest and for being alive. This event is now called the first Thanksgiving. It was a time to be thankful, to share, and to celebrate together.
Over time, Thanksgiving became a holiday in the United States. In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln made it a national holiday. Today, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Families and friends gather, eat special foods, and give thanks for the good things in their lives.
Thanksgiving is an important tradition that reminds people to be thankful and to share with others. It is a time to think about good things in our lives and appreciate them. Today, many families and friends meet, spend time together, and enjoy a warm and meaningful holiday.
