New Teachers

Ms. Barbara
Can you introduce yourself?
"I’m a pianist and was recently appointed as a music teacher here. After finishing my graduate studies in Germany, I spent nine years as a music instructor at a conservatory in New York."
Do you have any goals for the start of class?
"I’ve just finished my first week, and so far, the students have been very engaged and seem to genuinely enjoy music. My goal is for them to find harmony through music, experience joy, and build the confidence they need to carry through life."
Is there any TMI of your teaching style?
"For now, I prioritize open communication with my students. However, my 'character' might shift a bit when we’re preparing for major performances or events—I tend to get much more focused and disciplined during those times!"
Mr. Park
Can you introduce yourself?
My full name is Cheolwoo Park, and I have graduated with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science. I worked in various IT companies with different focus such as: academic research, B2B (Business to Business) industrial engineering, translation and game development. I have also taught at a different international school teaching only CS courses for primary and high school.
Do you have any goals for the start of class?
Well, due to my extensive corporate background, I'm very keen on introducing real life examples and how the industries actually utilize the concepts taught in schools. My goals are to heavily utilize small yet individually complex problem sets rather than solving myriads of simple questions, to better represent how problems are solved in real life situations.
Is there any TMI of your teaching style?
I rabbit trail a lot, by a lot, I rabbit trail into similar topics almost every lesson. It also shows that many courses and class materials are closely interconnected to each other. Since I was also originally studying Economics in university, I do make connections to social sciences during a math course, and make mathematical/scientific connections to the current topic during a social sciences course (in rare cases when I do teach social sciences). My previous co-workers told me that I do teach more like an university course rather than a high school one, if that helps you picture it better.
